Update!

Great-Leo: We're now contemplating an extension for the audition deadline. So right now... there isn't exactly a deadline... That's allfor now...

The Story:

Deep in the Arctic, many know of the occasional shipwrecked freighters half-buried in the ice. Some are too far in the center of the arctic for anyone to get too close to it. Well, one of these use shipwrecks have an entire asylum for the insane inside. No one exactly knows of its true location, save for those that reside in the asylum, although even then its difficult to tell if THEY know for sure.

Now, aside from its location, it has a very tight security with only two exits, the entrance, which is usually sealed shut, and the owner’s office exit. Oh, right, the owner of this asylum. Very few people know her true name, but she s referred to as “Blue” (~myanimeworld149) merely Blue. Once a very calm and organized woman, she ended up almost as insane as the clients… probably even more insane. Being the insane asylum owner that she is, she decided to create battle tournaments. Why? Well… She developed a love for cock fights, which developed to dog-fights… but she eventually grew bored… Soon deciding to go with pitting humans against each other. Now, of course, she didn’t get bored of these and soon started up tournies. Before now, three “I.N.S.AN.E.” tournaments ran prior to this one, each starting up, oh, three months away from each other. The winner of each of these all being won by the lovable cannibal known as Sorivile (~myanimeworld149) who is being cared for by his assigned nurse, Sara (~myanimeworld149).

Anyway, being easily bored, Blue decided to send out some of her… err… “Faceless Nurses” to find some more patients for the asylum, setting them up for the next tournament. Despite being inside an insane asylum in the arctic, they still manage to escape to gather up some “atients”. (@ - The crazies have special powers!)

Now, who will be forced in to fight for (essentially) their life? We’ll just have to see.

The Audition:

Okay~, you don’t necessarily need an insane character to enter, (Although Blue would be a very happy girl if we get a few “crazies” in this.) so the process is basically this, one of the asylum’s faceless nurses will confront you, convincing/forcing/kidnapping/chatting with your character to get them into the asylum. HOW that happens is entirely up to you.

As a bonus 9or an alternative part), if you feel like adding in your character waking in the asylum, being confronted by any of the Judge NPCs (including Blue) would also be fine. But yeah, so it goes like…

Be confronted by Nurse(s)  get into asylum

Or alternatively or alongside it:

Wake up in asylum  be confront by one of the judges.

What we're looking for: Creativity! Originality, an engaging story and an appealing execution of said story. What the story is and how its told takes precedence over art quality of the entry, as it is, in the end, what helps us get to know your character and what propels the story forward.

*Decent artwork, and understandable, clean formats if you want it bluntly.

The Rules:

Characters:

1. Fancharacters will be turned away at the door. Nothing from any popular franchise’s universe, unless of course, it is your own franchise. :3 OCs of any kind are allowed. Magic is completely allowed, should you choose to do that.

*Really, since the insane clients of this asylum tend to have very strange and spontaneous powers, just about anything goes, steampunk, ultra-tech, to having extremely magical powers, but if we sense godmodding in the OC, we’ll probably kick it out.

2. Characters can use familiars, summons, dopplegangers, separate entities, etc. Squads of OC’s squishing into ‘one’ combatant slot are allowed, but each fight must feature one main OC which will be the fighter, and the others may offer only minimal support. The focus should always be on your main combatant.

*Honestly, I suggest not to overdo this fact. Of course, it wouldn’t exactly matter either way, we just don’t want there to be overkill. XD

Battle rules:

1. Battles can be done one-shot portrait style or in comic format to even Flash based projects. Though there is a trend of comic format entries always doing much better, so just realize from the get-go, that’s the type of thing to get noticed. They are encouraged. This contest should be, after all, about expanding your artistic horizons, and there’s nothing like trying your hand at comics to learn you a thing or two about perspective, composition, pacing… and of course backgrounds.

2. Comics don’t have to be in color. Of course a masterfully colored/grayscaled entry is going to stand a much better chance than flat pencils, but it’s entirely up to you and what you feel most comfortable with.

*Not to mention that some people tend to do MUCH better in certain formats.

3. Battles don’t necessarily have to end in death. Nor are they going to be judged by gore, badassery or cleverness alone. It just needs to be a ‘defeat’. We’re looking for creativity here, an overall high standard in all categories, or whatever makes your art ‘you’. If you are on the side of comedy, be funny. If you like super gore, go for it. (Try to stay decent with accordance of the rules on DA..) The main thing is: bring yourself to the table here, with your own cards laid out, the way you want them. And do it with some pizzazz. XD
Long story short, just show your original character defeating who you are matched up with. And make the judges want to see more.

*Also, as MAW149 said to me, once, Blue, although she doesn’t care entirely if one dies, she would like more “atients” to stay for later tournies, or just to stay in general, to live in the asylum, so yet another little fun fact. ^^

4. 32 combatants means five rounds. 32 - 16 - 8 - 4 - 2. You will have a full three weeks to submit your entry, in an effort to encourage working at your own pace and giving it your all. However, in the later rounds, extensions are more likely due to school and the like.

*Not to mention we’ll have less people to look after.
